About
While I photograph a wide variety of subjects,, the majority of the work here is landscape photography with most of these scenes being from the southern part of Western Australia. Unlike many other landscapes around the world, most Australian wilderness areas are truly wild. The Australian bush is untamed and unruly and, while this sometimes makes capturing these scenes uniquely challenging, often that’s part of the attraction.
Australia is also different in terms of the tremendous distances involved. Standing on the summit of a mountain you can feel this with the sky above and the land below both seeming to stretch out forever. Walking through a forest you can feel the isolation as the trees surround you and you know that you are probably the only person for kilometres around.
This sense of space and distance is something I try to capture in many of my photos. Many are taken with a wide-angle lens and the boundary and interactions between land and sky are often important elements. These images seek to convey the sense of of both isolation and freedom that these distances bring.
